The Perrin Technique

Diagnosis

Consultation split into two parts

The Perrin Technique gives a patient a diagnosis of ME/CFS, FMS or a post-viral malaise such as Long-Covid with a proactive and detailed consultation appointment - rather than a diagnosis by process of elimination. At The Village Osteopaths, this consultation is split into two parts.

Patients are asked to complete a number of detailed questionaires and forms to collate as much information as possible for our osteopaths to process. These answers, alongside the physical examination, lead to a diagnosis under The Perrin Technique.

Dr Perrin has discovered definite physical signs which can be assessed using The Perrin Technique diagnostic protocol. This involves a physical examination to determine the severity of the toxicity build-up.

Part 1 - Video Call

When you have made a booking for The Perrin Technique Consultation you will be automatically sent a booking confirmation with 8 simple forms linked in the email - to be completed online (these automatically upload to our system so there’s no need to print them out).

The forms provide us with your detailed health and medical history and any mitigating factors. There are lots of questions, but can be completed at your leisure. We require all forms completed 7 days before your appointment, so Collette can read and process your answers.

On the video call your osteopath will talk through any areas which they determine to be of particular relevance and importance, as they look to establish causative and maintaining factors and, if possible a trigger. It is relaxed with no judgement - we are here to start your journey back to health.

Part 2 - Physical examination

Part 2 is an in-clinic appointment and centres on a physical examination which is unique to The Perrin Technique. Collette assesses physical signs of toxin build-up in the lymphatics, examines your breast tissue, spinal mechanics, mechanical assessment and neurological tests where necessary.

Due to the nature of the assessment you will be asked to undress to your waist. Please wear something comfortable and for modesty purposes, please also bring a towel to your appointment so you can be covered aside from when necessary.

Collette will combine the findings from the physical examination and information from your forms and Part 1, and will determine if there is a diagnosis to be made under The Perrin Technique protocol. If so, Collette will outline your prognosis and bespoke treatment plan before answering any questions you may have.

Bespoke treatment plan & personalised advice

The prognosis determines an estimated likely length of treatment, how effective treatment is likely to be for you, and your recommended initial appointment frequency. Treatment is usually recommended to be weekly initially and we schedule review appointments every 12-15 weeks to re-assess, chart progress and determine when you’re ready to spread appointments out.

Due to the detailed consultation Collette is in a unique position to advise on your health, on areas like lifestyle advice and practical tips to aid The Perrin Technique and your recovery. Occasionally something is highlighted which warrants further investigation, and we can communicate and refer you to other health professionals with expertise in areas should you need other assistance.

We will write to you with our findings but some patients feel more comfortable attending the consultation appointment with a family member or friend. This is so the chaperone can take in or take down information and ask questions as it can be a lot for patients to digest.
